about

A Forest Grew was first composed to accompany our tribute to the work of Paul Nash and his discovery of surrealism in Dorset in the 1930s - the Kingdom of Paul Nash. This music accompanies the stunning animation/illustration of brothers Tom and James Brown as Nash climbs towards a headland chapel (based on St. Aldhelm's, Purbeck) where he is taken beyond the threshold by a Blake-like guardian into a quarried tunnel leading Nash back to his past. More recently we have used the music to accompany the opening scene from Big Underground Ball (Sokolov, 1987) the stop-frame masterpiece which crowns our Enchanted Cinema programme touring in 2022.
